The report announced by the World Steel Association (WSA) said Iran continues to maintain its position as the 14th largest steel producer in the world in 2015 with a crude steel production reached 16.11 million tons.
Due to falling demand amid the difficulties of the world economy, crude steel production in 2015 was down 1.4% in Iran, compared to 16.33 million tons in 2014, of which, the output in 12/2015 biggest drop at 4.6%.
The WSA report also said that total crude steel production of 65 national member associations in 2015 reached 1622.8 million tons, down 2.8%.
China, Japan and India are the third largest crude steel producer in the world in the past year with the corresponding level of output 803.8 million tons and 105.2 million tons and 89.6 million tons.
According to the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade of Iran, the country's crude steel output is expected to increase to 18 million tons in fiscal 2015 (ending on 03/19/2016) and may reach 55 million tons in the year in 2025, while annual exports of crude steel is expected to reach 4 million tons in 2016, compared with 2.5 million tonnes last year.
Regional experts said Iran has great potential for development of mineral projects, particularly iron ore.
Iran's mineral reserves estimated at 60 billion tons, of which 37 billion tons of proven. Many of Iran's major ore deposits have yet to be developed due to lack of investment capital.
Iran is among 10 most mineral-rich countries in the world, with 68 different types of minerals, which is the largest ore deposits of copper, zinc and iron.
